Gentle reminder for fellow male-identified persons

As much as some of us may say we oppose patriarchy, it’s got its claws in us too. Beware of the need to be right, to play the hero, to deny complexity and nuance, to shrink from vulnerability, to default to confrontation, aggression, and anger, especially in pursuit of righteous ends. At least begin the work you need to do on yourself before you try to save the world.

It’s eye-opening how much I’ve come to depend on exercise for mood regulation.

The last couple of days I’ve been driving/sitting for hours. And my body, habituated to more activity, does not like this. By the end of the day, I want to break things.

A couple of months ago, a hemlock tree right on the edge of our yard just died—dropped all of its needles. Another hemlock, across the property line in the neighbors’ yard did the same. Yesterday the two trees were finally taken down, and though I know it needed to happen, I can’t help but feel sad at the changed landscape and the loss of what felt like an old friend.

I ordered a replacement—which I couldn’t have done if the registration hadn’t been renewed—and I got a temporary proof of registration to print out. But in the mean time the inspection station closed.

Very strange... I was about to go get my car inspected, when I realized that my registration had expired. I thought i had renewed—and indeed, my bank shows a record of the payment—but I don’t remember receiving the new registration.

My custom e-mail newsletter publishing system for the church was sending out html-only e-mails, and it had been weighing on me. Now we're sending out multipart/alternative with the text/plain part created by piping the html through w3m -dump. It's not perfect, but it'll do.

Thinking about this classic XKCD comic about dependencies.

I found this "Open Source Insights" project from Google ( but I'm wondering... has anyone systematically analyzed open source from git or w/e to see where there exist these "projects some random person in Nebraska has been thanklessly maintaining since 2003?"

Do we know where these pivotal structural elements are?

Me: "I need to get to work making words to pay the bills and stuff."

Also me: "I wonder where the azerty keyboard came from, and why? To Wikipedia!"

Maybe everything hurts,
Our hearts shadowed & strange.
But only when everything hurts
May everything change.

I’m glad I got my run in before the storms hit!

Just read this review highlighting Norman Gottwald’s linkage of early Israelite religion with a vision of economic justice. Gottwald’s *The Tribes of Yahweh* is going on my reading list.

Just back from my run, and it’s a steam bath out there—77F/25C and 71% humidity. ${spouse} has been after me to join the gym, and I’ve resisting (for skinflint-dad reasons: “Why pay when the great outdoors is free?”). But if it’s going to be like this or worse for the summer (likely), I may finally give in.

Anyone know a Masto instance for gardeners? It might be the gateway for my wife to get off FB. #ask #garden
